If you have a continuous flow hot water system, try this little tip to cut down on gas & electricity usage…
Do you sub-consciously turn the hot tap on to wash your hands?
Does the water even get a chance to get hot by the time you’ve finished washing your hands? Maybe a little, depending on where your hot water unit is located in relation to the outlet you’re using.
So, if that’s the case, you’re essentially just washing with cold water, right? Nothing wrong with that either, cold water & soap does the trick just fine.
Do you realise that whether or not hot water actually reaches your hands by the time you’ve finished washing them, that you’re still booting up your hot water unit, so you’re using both gas (if you have a gas continuous flow hot water unit) and electricity to wash your hands – when you could be using neither if you use the cold tap instead.
I know, I know, some of us like to use hot water to wash our hands with. That’s all good, but if it doesn’t bother you to wash with cold, just reach for the cold tap next time - it’ll save you quite a few bucks over time and save you some wear and tear on your hot water system as well.
