Last week we decommissioned this old Vulcan Heritage space heater, which is the type of heater that Energy Safe Victoria alerted the public about last year, after the death of Sonia Sofianopolous.
It had signs of heat damage to the outer casing, which led us to further investigate the cause. The issue was found to be a cracked and faulty heat exchange, which could potentially spill lethal amounts of carbon monoxide. The unit was removed from site.
All Vulcan Heritage or Pyrox Heritage space heaters have been withdrawn from sale and their manufacturer has ceased production.
Energy Safe Victoria recommend to have your gas heaters serviced and safety checked at least every two years by a qualified gas fitter.
