Gas Heater Service & Safety Checks – Geelong, Torquay, Anglesea, Barwon Heads, Ocean Grove & surrounds

Energy Safe Victoria recommends that all gas heaters should be serviced and tested for carbon monoxide at least every two years.  This needs to be done by a licensed plumber and gas fitter.

When Tomlinson Plumbing services your gas heater, we put one of our stickers on the heater showing the date of service, if the heater is safe to use, and when the next service is due.  We then add you to our heater service database and will send you a reminder when your next service date  is approaching.

Servicing your heater regularly ensures that all of the components are working correctly and the heater is running efficiently and safely.  A gas heater service involves a thorough check and test of all components, including:

  • Flue check
  • Burner & gas pressure check
  • Fan clean
  • Thermostat check
  • Heat exchanger check (for signs of heat damage)
  • General clean
  • Carbon monoxide test

The most important aspect of a heater service is the carbon monoxide test.  Carbon monoxide is a toxic gas that can be emitted from faulty, damaged or poorly maintained heaters.  You can’t see it, it has no odour, and it can be deadly.

A typical heater service takes approximately 1 – 2 hours, depending on the type of heating unit, and depending on the age and the condition of the heating unit, our technicians will determine if the unit needs to be serviced on an annual basis, instead of every two years.
