With a few cooler days here and there over the last couple of weeks, our schedule is starting to become dotted with gas heater services. And knowing how crazy Winter can be, our regular clients are also starting to get in early for their servicing.
Like any other piece of mechanical equipment, our gas log fires, ducted heaters, wall furnaces and space heaters undergo wear and tear over time (especially in Victoria!). Ideally, we want to get as much life out of our appliances, or as much bang for our buck, as possible - so regular maintenance is key.
A heater operating properly, not straining to function because it's fan is full of dust and fluff, or a part is needing an adjustment, is going to save you money over time. Not to mention there is also the importance of checking that your heater is safe and free from carbon monoxide spillage.
When you engage a gas fitter to service your heater, there is a legislated 31-point checklist report to work though, called an Appendix E. There are various tests to perform to make sure that your heater’s components fall within certain parameters, indicating that it’s functioning to necessary guidelines – the manufacturer’s guidelines, plumbing regulations and Australian Standards.
Be sure to get a copy of the Appendix E from the gas fitter . The Appendix E also needs to be lodged with the Victorian Building Authority (which the gas fitter does on your behalf).
