There's a comprehensive 31-point check list of things to test, called an ‘Appendix E’, and it’s a legislated process for all gas appliances. The property owner should get a copy of the Appendix E and the gas fitter has to lodge a copy with the Victorian Building Authority.
Play it safe with gas. Have your gas log fires and gas heaters serviced and safety checked at least every two years by a gas fitter licensed in Type A Gas Appliance Servicing - and make sure you see it in pieces!
