Servicing your gas heater or gas log fire requires it to be taken apart

We've written before about the importance of seeing your heater in pieces when you have it serviced and safety checked, whether that's a gas log fire, a space heater, wall furnace, or ducted heater in your ceiling.

Your gas fitter should strip the heater down, so the various components can be cleaned, inspected and tested.

There’s a comprehensive procedure that needs to be followed (a 31-point checklist as per legislation introduced about a year ago in fact), including testing the inlet gas pressure, the gas burner pressure, and the thermostat, before the carbon monoxide test can be carried out to determine the safety of your gas heater. Don't be fooled by someone just coming in and waving a carbon monoxide analyser around and declaring it safe or otherwise, without touching your heater - this isn't allowed.

So, play it safe with gas & have your heaters serviced and safety checked at least every 2 years by a gas fitter licensed in Type A Gas Appliance Servicing (ask to see the tick on their licence). Like cars, regular servicing ensures gas heaters are kept in the best shape possible for optimal performance, reduced energy consumption and overall longevity.
