What would your day be like if you couldn’t turn on the tap and get clean drinking water, or if you flushed the toilet and the waste didn’t go anywhere?
Unfortunately, this is a reality for many people across the globe.
There are some wonderful community organisations making inroads and helping developing countries achieve better sanitation, but there’s such a long way to go.
But what about here in Australia? Sure, most of us have flushing toilets and access to clean drinking water, but a huge chunk of the country is smack bang in the middle of a massive drought.
Farmers are really struggling to keep stock alive, country towns are running out of water. With no real rainfall predicted in the short term, it really is dire straits for some regions.
In urban areas, we’re not seeing the devastation each day to remind us, so we really do need to try and keep our water usage habits in the forefront of our minds. We need to look after our supplies.
Put in that rain water tank, get that dripping tap fixed, repair the leaking toilet, turn off the tap when you’re brushing your teeth, sweep the path instead of hosing it down.
Think water. Because once it’s gone, it’s gone.
