We live in a very dry country. Regional areas are faced with the reality every single day, but in urban areas on mains water supply, we can sometimes become complacent, so we really do need to try and keep our water usage habits in the forefront of our minds and look after our supplies.
And sometimes it’s just the little things that can make such a big difference.
A leaking tap dripping at the rate of one drop per second will waste approximately 11,356 litres per year!! To put it into context, that’s:
~ 1,135 x large 10-litre buckets
~ 63 average sized bath tubs filled to the brim
~ 199 loads of washing in a high-efficiency washing machine
~ 567 four-minute showers with a water saving shower head
Even more alarmingly..
As you’re probably aware, it is recommended that we should drink an average of between 2 - 2.5 litres of water per day, which is about 730 - 912 litres per year.
Over the course of a year, that dripping tap will waste in the vicinity of 12.5 - 15.5 years’ worth of drinking water for one person! Not only a big waste of water, but a big waste of money down the drain (literally).
We really need to fix the drip!
