Dripping taps can waste HUGE amounts of water
We live in a drought-ravaged country. Regional areas are faced with the reality every single day, but in urban areas we can sometimes become complacent, so we really do need to try and keep our water usage habits in the forefront of our minds and look after our supplies.
Did you know that a leaking tap dripping at the rate of one drop per second will waste approximately 11,356 litres per year!! To put it into context, that’s:
- 1,135 buckets
- 63 average sized bath tubs filled to the brim
- 199 loads of washing in a high-efficiency washing machine
- 567 four-minute showers with a water saving showerhead
Even more alarmingly...
It is recommended that males should drink an average of 2.5 litres of water per day, and females 2.0 litres per day, which is about 912 and 730 litres respectively per year.
Over the course of a year, that dripping tap will waste just under 12.5 years’ worth of drinking water for one man, or just over 15.5 years’ supply for one woman.
We really need to fix the drips!
