Continuous Flow Hot Water Systems versus Gas Storage Hot Water Systems

Considering a new hot water system and not sure which way to go?

The Pros & Cons

Continuous flow hot water units heat the water as you need it, so you'll never run out of hot water.

The units are compact and usually wall mounted, and some units have controllers so you can set the required water temperature at particular outlets.

Running costs for continuous flow hot water units are lower than for gas storage units, however, sometimes you may need to upgrade your gas line, so this can be an initial additional cost to consider.

Most continuous flow units need to be plugged into a powerpoint, so if there is a power outage, you're left without hot water, however, there are units available that do not require an electrical power supply.

The purchase price of a Gas Storage Hot Water system is usually lower than the continuous flow models and typically, no upgrade of gas lines are required.

Gas Storage units aren't as energy efficient as the continous flow units and the tank takes up space at the side/back of your property, however, generally, installation costs are lower.

Positives and negatives for both - so it just depends on your situation and requirements.
