If you engage a plumber to replace your old electric hot water unit with a new electric hot water unit, they must supply you with not only a Certificate of Compliance for the plumbing component, but also an Electrical Certificate of Safety for the electrical component.
For a plumber to be able to replace electric hot water units, they must hold a 'Restricted Electrical Licence' for the disconnection and reconnection of electric hot water units.
If a plumber does not hold a Restricted Electrical Licence, they must engage a qualified electrician to conduct the electrical part of the hot water unit installation.
In the past 3 weeks alone we have unfortunately come across a whopping 8 instances where a customer's hot water warranty has been voided because the installing plumber did not hold a Restricted Electrical Licence when completing the change over - and issues that have arisen with the hot water unit that would normally be fixed under warranty, are not covered.
